Discussions on expanding educational cooperation between Korea and Uzb…
The Association (Chairman Kim Chang Keon) announced that it had recently held an official meeting with Kwangwoon University with the aim of establishing a base for Korean language education in Uzbekistan and expanding cooperation in the field of exchange programmes. The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Association, Kim Chang Keon, members of the Board of Directors Kim Jae-gim (Professor at Kwangwoon University) and others, and on behalf of Kwangwoon University, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Cho Seong-yeon, Rector Yoon Do-yeon and other key officials, who held in-depth discussions on future areas of cooperation.
The discussion focused on establishing Korean language centres at local universities in Uzbekistan and developing a framework for their operation. Given that the infrastructure for teaching the Korean language in the country is not yet sufficiently developed, the parties reached a consensus on the need to introduce a systematic Korean-style educational model. In particular, both sides agreed on a course of action aimed at establishing strategic centres based on Korean language education and, through this, at continuously expanding people-to-people contacts and educational cooperation between the two countries.
As regards the framework for cooperation, it was agreed to define the cooperation model in such a way that Kwangwoon University would be responsible for managing Korean language programmes and establishing the educational system, whilst the Association would support the implementation of the project by providing local infrastructure and network support. In addition, both sides agreed to hold specific working-level talks during a visit to Uzbekistan in April this year, and to set up a task force led by the rector to draw up a phased action plan.
The Association’s Chairman, Kim Chang Keon, stated: “These talks represent an important starting point that goes beyond mere cooperation in the field of education and aims to strengthen people-to-people contacts and cultural ties between the two countries,” adding: “We plan to establish a strategic centre in partnership with Kwangwoon University, based on Korean language education, and to develop a model for sustainable cooperation on this basis.”
