On 6 February, the Association held an official meeting between Gwangju Bank and Hayot Bank (Uzbekistan) on expanding financial cooperation, during which it was decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening future cooperation. During the meeting, Hayot Bank representatives noted that Korea has advanced infrastructure and outstanding technological capabilities not only in the banking sector, but also in IT and financial technology. They stated that cooperation with Gwangju Bank would be an important catalyst in establishing a framework for economic cooperation between Korea and Uzbekistan.

Gwangju Bank explained that trade finance issues, such as credit matters, should be resolved gradually through future working-level discussions. It also discussed foreign exchange services, which are currently unavailable, as a medium- to long-term task alongside the further expansion of its global network. In addition, the parties agreed to explore various cooperation initiatives, including digital financial services related to local Uzbek workers and foreign students, foreign currency transfer services, and joint marketing targeting corporations. They also agreed to gradually expand these through the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the aim of creating a mutually beneficial structure.

Chairman Kim Chang Keon, who presided over today's meeting, stated: ‘This was a meaningful event that confirmed the diverse potential for cooperation between Gwangju Bank and Hayot Bank,’ adding, ‘We hope that these discussions will serve as a positive catalyst not only for the mutual growth of both banks, but also for economic development and the strengthening of friendly cooperation between Korea and Uzbekistan.’ At the same time, both sides agreed to establish a working consultation channel in the near future, to consider specific cooperation plans step by step, and then to continue diverse cooperation. The Association plans to act as a bridge to help both banks, as its member institutions, further strengthen and develop their cooperative relationship.
