Visit to Uzbekistan of a delegation of the Pyeongtaek City Hall
A delegation of the Pyeongtaek City Hall, Gyeonggi Province, visited Uzbekistan from 10 to 15 March as part of a 4-night, 6-day trip. Chairman of Association Kim Chang Keon and staff members provided comprehensive support for the on-site events and implemented various cooperation programmes aimed at expanding economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
The delegation visited Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE), where they held a meeting with the university’s management and discussed opportunities for cooperation in the fields of education and science. At this meeting, the Mayor of Pyeongtaek, Jeong Jang Sun, was awarded an honorary doctorate by Tashkent State University of Economics in recognition of his contribution to expanding exchanges and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
In addition, the delegation visited the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, where they discussed ways to expand economic cooperation between enterprises in the two countries and also, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the Pyeongtaek Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan with a view to developing business contacts and investment cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Association and Pyeongtaek City Hall have made efforts to expand exchanges with the Korean diaspora. The delegation visited the Association of Koreans in Uzbekistan and held a meeting with its chairman, Viktor Park, who was appointed Honorary Ambassador of Pyeongtaek City at the event. In addition, Pyeongtaek Mayor Jeong Jang Sun was awarded the Order of Friendship and Cooperation by the Association of Koreans in recognition of his contributions to strengthening friendly relations and cooperation with the Korean diaspora.
Chairman Kim Chang Keon, stated: “Korea and Uzbekistan have great potential for cooperation in the fields of the economy, culture and people-to-people exchanges,” and added that in future the Association would continue to act as a bridge between the two countries, as well as actively promoting the development of cooperation, including the expansion of cooperation and investment between enterprises, and the strengthening of friendly relations and the establishment of sister-city ties between the governments.
